ABOUT ARTISAN HOUSE

This house is here because a team of people wanted to build a great home.  We wanted to use the best materials and craftsmanship available to make an uncompromised house which fit the property and challenged all of us to do our best work, from the architects to the helpers.  This is a project that was done in the belief that you can still handcraft a home of heirloom quality, something to be enjoyed and appreciated for generations.
This home is made with reverence for the site, the materials, and the craft of building.  You will see evidence through this home:  some of the finest mahogany available anywhere in the world, personally hand selected from sources groomed over our twenty five years in custom building.  You will see it in the design, polished by thousands of hours of effort from the whole team.  You will see it in the details, designed until they were right for this house and this location.

We work in the spirit of the arts and crafts era of the early 1900’s when these values were more prevalent.  The team that designed and built this house is committed to this same art of building.  Every element and detail has been considered and every attempt has been made to make this a very special, one of a kind home.

If the buyer would like to explore the option of having us furnish some or the entire house, we can offer a full complement of furnishings made in our shop of the same materials and level of detail you will see throughout this home.  (see the armoire in the entry foyer as an example) or visit the Corlis Woodworks website at www.corlisdesign.com.
